Black Axolotl Axolotls are quite resilient to minor changes in their environment, but they possess soft, delicate bodies with permeable skin. Most of their structure consists of cartilage instead of bone, which means handling them should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. If you must relocate them from their tank, use a fine mesh net to prevent any entanglement of their body parts. Once their habitat is properly established, you only need to dedicate a few hours each week to feeding and cleaning. The rest of the time can be spent simply enjoying their presence as calm aquatic companions. Axolotls are generally bold and will often swim around their tank, even when being observed.
