Unlike the more streamlined plecos, these fish have a distinctive body shape that is almost humpbacked, with their eyes positioned close to their mouth and large, bulky bodies. Initially a bit shy when young, they tend to hide in dark corners, caves, or tubes until the tank lights are turned off. However, as they become more settled and grow, they often become more active even with the lights on.
